With the gas prices soaring above $5.00 per gallon in much of the US, it is becoming harder to keep your gas tank full. I just read an article that AAA has seen a 60% increase in calls of people who ran out of gas and need help stranded on the side of the road.
However, running out of gas may cost you more than just adding gas to the tank. Your gas tank collects dirt and debris that settles at the bottom of the tank. When you’re running on empty the debris mixes in with the gas and may end up clogging the fuel filter, fuel pump and injectors. This could lead to the vehicle being towed to a repair shop and an expensive repair invoice.
I know it is challenging to keep the car topped off with the current fuel costs, but you certainly do not need an expensive repair cost on top of that. I would try to add gas anytime the fuel gauge reads ¼ of a tank to prevent this from happening to you.
Stay cool and have a great time this summer.
